New Website for Community Sharing

Streetbank is a website for sharing things. Do you need to borrow a drill for some DIY? Perhaps there’s someone near you who could lend you one? Or perhaps you have a Food Mixer sitting in the cupboard that you rarely use? There might be someone down the road who would love to borrow it to make a Birthday cake.

New Youth Club opening next Spring

Councillor Belton’s November newsletter reports that we are soon to have the largest Youth Club in the UK, right on our Doorstep. The old Caius Youth Club was demolished in 2008, in order to build a brand new development, consisting of a huge Youth Club on the lower floors, with 80 flats on the floors above. (Caius is pronounced “Keys” – it’s a latinised word, BTW) The Club will have a 3-storey Sports Hall, as well as a dance studio, a small cinema, a music recording studio, and a multimedia suite. It’s being built just behind Badric Court, on the corner of Yelverton Road and Holman Road,  and the builders are due to hand over the keys next Spring. It’s about time local Kids had some decent facilities, to counteract the Council’s seemingly endless cuts to Children’s facilities in the Borough! Below are some artists impressions of what the new building will look like… This slideshow requires JavaScript. Clubroom Paint-a-thon

Do you have a couple of hours to spare this weekend? We need volunteers to help paint the Kambala Clubroom – we’ll be having a new floor laid in November, so we need to get the walls painted before that happens. You don’t need any specialist skills – just the ability to hold a paintbrush or roller! We’ll provide Refreshments, Snacks, and Cake, plus a¬†free ticket to our Xmas Party for all those who help for at least a couple of hours. Please come along to the Clubroom at 126 Fawcett Close, any time between 10.30am and 3pm on Saturday or Sunday – we’d love to see you there!
