Happy New Year – and apologies for the lack of posts recently!

Our first Public Meeting of 2013 will be on Wednesday January 30th, from 7.30pm. Among other things, we’ll be discussing the Council’s proposals for closing the Rubbish cupboards, and providing Communal bins instead. Councillors will be there to answer your questions.

Festive Cheer on Battersea High Street

A unique Christmas celebration takes place on Battersea High Street this weekend with local businesses and independent artists teaming up to provide an array of festive fun.

The ‘Christmas Crawl’ on Saturday 1 December invites shoppers to work their way through a street filled with fairground rides, live music, candy floss machines and arts and crafts stalls.

Shops will have special Christmas promotions while pubs and cafés will offer festive menus including roast chestnuts, a hog roast, braised venison, and mulled wine.

The event is a collaboration between the high street’s traders and local artists from the Parkham Street Studios.

Businesses taking part include The Woodman, Costa’s Barbers Casual Wear, The Candlemaker, The Castle Pub and Galapagos.

Carrot Cake Nursery Recycling Initiative

The Carrot Cake Nursery on Falcon Road is starting a new Recyling Initiative:

They are collecting baby food pouches, such as Ella’s Kitchen, biscuit wrappers, old mobile phones and coffee refill pouches, such as the Kenco Eco Refill. They can be placed in the container just inside their gate at 100 Falcon Road, SW11 2LH.

Free Advice Day Tomorrow

Wandsworth Council are running a free advice day tomorrow (November 1st), from 10.30am – 2.30pm at the Civic Suite, in Wandsworth High Street.

More than 50 local organisations and Council Departments will be on hand to answer questions.

A programme of talks throughout the day includes the police’s Special Crime Directorate on identity fraud, Job Centre Plus on advice for lone parents, updates on housing benefits changes, latest news from the Department of Works and Pensions, a talk from South Thames College on courses and how to enrol and information on financial assessments on social care costs.

There will also be stalls giving tips and information on issues including

Benefits
Pensions
Council Tax
Rent
Housing
Money management
Home safety
Keeping healthy
Getting into work

Public Residents Meeting

The next Public Meeting of the Kambala Estate Residents Association will take place on Tuesday 14th August, from 7.00pm at the Kambala Clubroom, 126 Fawcett Close.

It’s a great opportunity for Residents to raise any concerns about Policing on the Estate.

Quiz your Councillor!

Residents will be able to quiz senior councillors and raise issues of local concern at the latest Let’s Talk meeting, which is being held on Thursday 19th July from 7.30pm at York Gardens Library.

This feedback session on Thursday, July 19 will give residents in this part of Battersea the chance to deliver their verdict on a wide range of local services and highlight areas of concern.

Among those present will be:

Ravi Govindia – Leader of the Council
Rex Osborn – Opposition leader
Tony Belton, Wendy Speck, and Simon Hogg – Latchmere Ward’s three elected Councillors
Senior Managers from all the Town Hall services

Clapham Junction Grant Road Entrance Open
